About Sister Nivedita
Sister Nivedita, born on October 28, 1867 in England, was an Irish missionary known for her work towards India’s independence from Britain. She also founded a girls’ school in the Bagbazar area of Calcutta.
Before gaining fame, she learned extensively from her father and then her grandfather, who was a leader of the freedom movement in Ireland. Despite her Scots-Irish heritage, she is remembered for dedicating herself to India.
She was born to Mary Isabel and Samuel Richmond Noble.
