About Shirley Barbara Strickland
Shirley Barbara Strickland was an Australian athlete born on July 18, 1925. She is best known for her achievements in running sports, winning more Olympic medals than any other Australian in the discipline, including three golds.
Before fame, she attended Northam High School on a scholarship. Additionally, she was one of the torchbearers at the Opening Ceremony for the 2000 Summer Olympics.
In 1950, Strickland married geologist Lawrence Edmund de la Hunty and they had four children: Phillip, Barbara, Matthew, and David.
