About Shirley Ann Pithers
Shirley Ann Pithers, born on June 12, 1935 in Brentford, England, was a TV actress better known by her screen name Jane Freeman. She rose to prominence for her role as Ivy in the long-running British TV show Last of the Summer Wine. Her portrayal of Ivy lasted for an impressive 37 years across various iterations of the program on BBC. Additionally, she appeared in several movies over the course of her career.
Prior to gaining fame as an actress, Pithers graduated from Cardiff College of Music and Drama in 1955. Notably, she acted alongside Colin Firth in Chatsky, marking her final stage production.
In terms of personal life, Pithers tied the knot with Michael Simpson in 1971 after meeting him while both were involved with the Birmingham Rep theatre group; Simpson served as its artistic director at that time.
