Shemekia Copeland is a blues singer, born on April 10, 1979 in New York City, New York. She gained recognition with her 1998 album Turn the Heat Up!. Copeland’s passion for music deepened when her father’s health was at risk. Her second album Wicked received three Blues Music Awards. She is the daughter of Texas blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland.
