Sharice Davids (born May 22, 1980) is an American politician who gained prominence following the 2018 mid-term elections as one of the first Native American women to serve in Congress alongside Deb Haaland. She was elected to represent Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District.
Prior to her political career, Davids pursued a diverse range of professional endeavors. In 2013, she established herself as a professional MMA fighter with a balanced win/loss record. Additionally, she graduated from Cornell Law School and has worked directly in community and economic development for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Furthermore, she opened her own coffee shop.
A member of the Ho-Chunk nation, Sharice Davids maintains strong connections to her Native American heritage – her maternal grandfather originally belonging to the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans.
