About Segolene Royal
Ségolène Royal, born on September 22, 1953 in Ouakam, Senegal, is a French politician who achieved the historic milestone of becoming the first woman to be nominated by a major party for the French presidential election in 2007. Prior to her groundbreaking presidential candidacy, she served as the French Minister of the Environment and Way of Life from 1992 to 1993 and later became a Deputy of the National Assembly representing Deux-Sèvres’ 2nd constituency.
Before entering politics, Royal obtained her degree from Ecole nationale d’administration in 1980. She also authored the book “The Channel-Surfing Kids Are Fed-Up,” which was published in 1989.
Having been born on a military base in Senegal as one of eight children, Ségolène Royal’s personal background has played an influential role throughout her political career.
