Sarina Wiegman (born October 26, 1969) is a Dutch football manager and former player. She currently serves as the manager of the England women’s national team, a position she has held since September 2021. Wiegman led the English women to victory in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, marking a significant achievement in her coaching career.
Before becoming a coach, Wiegman had an illustrious playing career. She began her soccer journey at ESDO from Wassenaar at a young age and later played for the University of North Carolina women’s team in 1989. Upon returning to the Netherlands, she joined Ter Leede’s women’s team and achieved success by winning both the Dutch championship and the KNVB Cup once during her time there. Additionally, Wiegman represented the Netherlands from 1987 to 2001 as part of its national team.
One notable fact about Sarina Wiegman is that when England defeated Germany for their Women’s Euro 2022 title under her leadership, she became the first coach across men’s and women’s soccer to have won the Euros with two different countries. Notably, she had also coached her native Netherlands to victory in this competition back in 2017.
Born in The Hague, Netherlands,Wiegman is married to Marten Glotzbach with whom she has two daughters named Sacha and Lauren Glotzbach.
