About Sarah Kate Ellis
Sarah Kate Ellis (born November 27, 1971) is an American media executive, journalist and author. She began her career in 1995 at Conde Nast’s House and Garden before working for New York magazine and In Style. Eventually, she oversaw lifestyle group brands at Vogue. Ellis also uses her platform on social media to share her family life and activism work, amassing over 8,000 followers.
Before launching her successful career, Sarah graduated from Russell Sage College in 1993 with a degree in sociology and a minor in women’s studies.
In 2014, Sarah was appointed president and CEO of GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). She came out as a lesbian during the final year of her university studies and began actively participating in LGBTQ+ activism since 1992.
Born to Barbara and Ken Ellis in New York City, Sarah grew up with her brother Spencer on Staten Island where she attended Staten Island Academy as a child.
