Sara Roosevelt Feet

Sara Roosevelt, born on September 21, 1854 in New York, was the mother of thirty-second United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She is well-known for being a dedicated mother who voted for her son and only child in three separate presidential elections.

Before fame, Sara embarked on a journey to Hong Kong at the age of eight with her mother and six siblings to join her father, an opium trader based in the Far East. In 1934, she was honored when New York’s Sara Delano Roosevelt Park was named after her.

She grew up in Newburgh, New York as one of the children of Catherine Robbins Lyman and Warren Delano Jr., alongside eight surviving siblings. In 1880, she married businessman James Roosevelt I; two years later they had their son Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
