About Sara Montiel
Sara Montiel, born Maria Antonia Alejandra Abad Fernandez on March 10, 1928, in Campo de Criptana, Castile-La Mancha, Spain.
A famous Spanish movie actress known for her roles in the blockbuster films La Violetera and El Ultimo Cuple. She gained recognition for her performance in the 1947 cinematic version of Don Quixote.
Montiel was also a notable singer with numerous music recordings to her name including Sara Montiel La Diva and Songs From The Film Besame.
She began her acting career at age fifteen appearing in Locura de Amor, a Spanish-produced film. She later went on to act in several Mexican movies and the 1954 Hollywood feature Vera Cruz.
Montiel’s personal life is detailed in her two memoirs — Memories: To Live Is A Pleasure (2000) and Sara and Sex (2003) — where she claimed alleged liaisons with movie star James Dean, novelist Ernest Hemingway, scientist Severo Ochoa, and playwright Miguel Mihura.
She married four times – first to director Anthony Mann followed by attorney Jose Ollala; journalist and lawyer Jose Barberan; then videographer Antonio Hernandez. Her marriages produced two children who were both adopted.
