About Sara Mearns
Sara Mearns, born on January 19, 1986 in Columbia, South Carolina, is a renowned ballet performer known for her role as the principal dancer in the New York City Ballet. Her remarkable talent earned her nominations for a Benois de la Danse award in 2012 and a Bessie Award in 2014.
Mearns discovered her passion for dancing at the age of three and pursued formal training by enrolling in the School of American Ballet in 2001. She joined the NYC Ballet in 2003 and achieved the status of principal dancer by 2008.
During her career, Mearns faced a back injury which prompted her to become an advocate for promoting injury prevention within dance. Additionally, she collaborated with Cole Haan to design ballet flats. She hails from South Carolina and shares her love for dance with a brother who also excels in this art form.
