Sara Hall (born April 14, 1983) is a professional and elite long-distance runner from Santa Rosa, California. She has achieved significant success in her career, including winning 10 US National Championship titles and setting the record as the second-fastest American woman to run the half marathon in January 2022.
As of 2023, Sara Hall is also known as the only athlete in US history to win national titles in both the mile and the marathon.
Prior to her fame, she displayed an interest in running and sports from a young age, winning four state cross-country titles while attending Montgomery High School. Afterward, she attended Stanford University where she finished third at the NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championship in 2003 before turning professional after graduating in 2005.
Sara Hall is an ASICS-sponsored runner and co-founded the Hall Steps Foundation dedicated to fighting world poverty through better health. Her Christian faith holds importance in her life which was documented when she shared her journey to become an elite runner with The New York Times.
In addition to her successful career, Sara Hall comes from a family rooted deeply within athletics. Born Sarah Bei, she married U.S. Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall in 2005 before adopting four sisters from Ethiopia together with him,in2015
