Samira Makhmalbaf is an influential Iranian director born on February 15, 1980, in Iran. She is known for her contributions to the Iranian New Wave movement and has directed notable films such as “At Five in the Afternoon” and “Blackboards.”
Makhmalbaf’s passion for filmmaking led her to leave high school at age 14 to study film at the Mohhmalbaf Film House for five years. She played a significant role in advancing women’s rights within Iranian cinema.
In her personal life, she was married to Fatemeh Meshkini and had three children before Meshkini tragically passed away in an accident in 1992.
