About Saint Teresa
Saint Teresa, born on July 13, 1900 in Santiago, Chile, was a prominent religious leader affiliated with the Discalced Carmelite order. Recognized for her remarkable dedication to tending to the chronically ill and children, she was canonized as Saint Teresa of the Andes in 1993.
Prior to embracing her religious vocation, she encountered an autobiography of a French Carmelite nun during her youth which greatly influenced her decision to pursue a life devoted to spirituality. Tragically, Saint Teresa succumbed to typhus shortly after joining the Discalced Carmelites.
Her early years were marked by privilege as she belonged to an affluent family in Santiago.
