Sabina Mary Higgins, born on January 1, 1941 in Ireland, is an Irish actress and political activist. She is best known as the wife of politician Michael D. Higgins.
In July 2022, she drew criticism after a published letter in the Irish Times where she called on Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire and negotiations with Russia.
Before her fame, Sabina Higgins attended the University of Galway and trained using Constantin Stanislavski’s method of acting. She portrayed Julia Grenan in the Irish docudrama Insurrection.
She has been active in her opposition to the Iraq War and notably visited jailed anti-war activist Margaretta D’Arcy in Limerick Prison in January 2014.
In family life, Sabina married Michael D. Higgins in 1974. They have four children: Alice-Mary, twins John and Michael Jr., and Daniel.
