About Ruth Becker
Ruth Becker (1899-10-28) was an American woman best known for being one of the last living survivors of the RMS Titanic disaster in April 1912. Born in Guntur, India, she boarded the ill-fated ship at the age of 12 and was ultimately rescued by the RMS Carpathia along with her family.
After surviving the tragedy, Becker pursued a career in education and taught school in Michigan. She also made appearances at several Titanic Historical Society conventions, where she recounted her experiences as a survivor.
In April 1994, her ashes were scattered at the same coordinates in the Atlantic Ocean where the Titanic had sunk 82 years earlier as a final tribute to her connection to this historic event.
Becker’s parents were Lutheran missionary Allen Oliver Becker and his wife Nellie. She later married Daniel Blanchard and had three children with him before passing away.
