About Ruth Bancroft Law
Ruth Bancroft Law (born May 21, 1887 in Lynn, Massachusetts) was a pioneering aviatrix and the first female pilot to be employed by the military. Throughout her career, she achieved numerous cross-country speed records and played a significant role in promoting aviation.
In June of 1912, she embarked on her journey to become a pilot and quickly rose to prominence in the field. Notably, during World War I, she held a non-commissioned officer post and conducted military recruitment tours through her flying prowess.
Law’s accomplishments as an aviator were cut short when she retired from flying at the request of her husband, Charles Oliver. Concerned for his wife’s safety, he encouraged her to step back from active piloting. Nonetheless, Ruth Bancroft Law’s legacy continues to inspire future generations of female pilots and aviation enthusiasts.
