About Ruma Guha Thakurta
Ruma Guha Thakurta (born November 21, 1934) is an Indian composer, singer, and actress. She is known for her work in Bengali music and her appearance in the film The Namesake. In 1958, she founded the Calcutta Youth Choir.
Before gaining fame, Ruma was one of the first child students at the Uday Shankar Cultural Centre in Almora.
During the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence, she recorded a Bengali version of “We Shall Overcome,” which became one of the best-selling Bengali records of all time.
Ruma’s mother,Sati Devi was also a singer. She had been married to Kishore Kumar from 1951 until 1958. Then be married Arup Guhathakurta completed their marriage journey together before his passing away on2004. Throughout this time frame they had three children together.
