About Ruby Turner
Ruby Turner, born on June 22, 1958, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a Jamaican R&B and soul singer-songwriter. She has achieved notable success with eight UK charting singles between 1986 and 1995 and reached #1 on the US R&B chart with her song “It’s Gonna Be Alright,” making her one of the few British singers to accomplish this feat.
Prior to her solo career, Turner recorded with UB40 and served as a backing vocalist for Culture Club’s album From Luxury to Heartache. Later on, she signed as a solo artist with Jive Records. In addition to her music career, Turner has also appeared on stage and screen, including performances on BBC Television’s Jools Holland ‘s Hootenanny from 2007 to 2014.
Turner was born in Jamaica but moved with her family to Handsworth, Birmingham, England when she was nine years old.
