About Roxane Gay
Roxane Gay was born on October 15, 1974, in Omaha, Nebraska. She is a non-fiction author and activist who gained recognition with her 2014 essay collection “Bad Feminist.” This work earned her widespread acclaim.
In 2018, she received the Eisner Award for best limited series for her writing in Marvel’s “World of Wakanda,” making her the first black woman author to do so.
Gay began her collegiate studies at Yale University before dropping out during junior year to pursue a relationship. She later completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and went on to become an associate English professor at Eastern Illinois University in 2010.
She has been included in the book “In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs” (2016). Furthermore, she received honors such as the Lambda Literary Awards trustee award and bisexual nonfiction for her work “Hunger” (2018).
Gay openly identifies as bisexual and comes from a family of Haitian descent.
