About Rowena Jackson
Rowena Jackson was a New Zealand-born prima ballerina, known for her performances with the Sadler’s Wells Ballet in London and later with the Royal Ballet. Born on March 24, 1926, in Invercargill, New Zealand, she made history as the first student from her home country to win a Royal Academy of Dancing Scholarship in the early 1940s.
One of her most acclaimed roles was that of Swanhilda in the Coppelia ballet. Aside from her successful career, she also had a personal life – marrying fellow dancer Philip Chatfield.
