Rosemary Casals, born on September 16, 1948 in California, is a renowned tennis player and International Tennis Hall of Famer. Throughout her two-decade-long career, she achieved victory in over ninety tournaments, showcasing unparalleled skill and determination.
In addition to her athletic prowess, Casals has been lauded for her tireless advocacy for gender equality in the sport. She played a pivotal role in championing equal prize money for male and female tennis players.
Before rising to international fame, Casals excelled as a junior player and by the age of sixteen was already recognized as the top-ranked junior player in northern California.
Outside of her sporting achievements, she went on to establish Sportswomen Inc. in 1981 where she served as founder and President—an organization dedicated to advancing women’s roles within sports.
Casals’ upbringing was overseen by her great-uncle and great-aunt—Manuel and Maria Casals—as she navigated challenges and rose through the ranks as a prominent figure within the world of professional tennis.
