About Rosa Bonheur
Rosa Bonheur was a French artist and sculptor born on March 16, 1822, in Bordeaux, France. She is best known for her two famous works: “Ploughing in the Nivernais” created in 1848 and “The Horse Fair” completed in 1853.
In March of 2022, Google celebrated her 200th birth anniversary.
Bonheur began her artistic training at the age of twelve by copying images from drawing books and sketching models. She went on to receive numerous accolades including being decorated with the Legion of Honour in France by Empress Eugenie in 1865. Her work can be found prominently displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
She came from a family of artists in Bordeaux, Gironde, where she was born as the oldest child.
