About Rommy Hunt Revson
Rommy Hunt Revson (born February 15, 1944) is an American inventor best known for creating the Scrunchie, a fabric-covered elastic hair tie used to fasten medium to long hair types.
Before gaining fame as an inventor, Rommy worked as a nightclub singer in Manhattan during the 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, she was a voice teacher and songwriter.
In 1986, while preparing for job interviews and trying to protect her brittle hair after bleaching it, she invented the now-famous Scrunchie. She obtained a design patent and license but was unable to manage the large amounts of orders when demand surged. This led her business to fail. However, major retailers such as Walmart, Kmart, Target,CVS ,and Walgreens agreed to become licensees following the patent.
Rommy has been married multiple times and has one son.
