About Robin Thede
Robin Thede is a comedy writer, sketch, and improvisational comedian who achieved a significant milestone in 2015 when she was hired by The Nightly Show as the first African-American woman to serve as head writer for a late-night talk show. Born on July 27th, 1979 in Iowa, she later went on to host BET’s The Rundown, becoming the first African-American woman to host a late-night TV talk show.
Prior to her career in television, Thede earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism and African-American Studies from Northwestern University. She has also starred in a BET original web series called Buppies and worked as a staff writer on the BET original Real Husbands of Hollywood.
Thede’s family background includes her parents Dave and Phyllis Thede – her father being German-American and her mother being African-American. Additionally, she has two younger sisters.
