About Richmal Crompton
Richmal Crompton, born on November 15th, 1890 in England, was a prolific young adult author best known for her Just William fiction series. However, she also wrote several standalone works like The Innermost Room, Millicent Dorrington, and Family Roundabout. Before her literary career took off, Crompton earned a Classics degree from the University of London’s Royal Holloway College and worked as a schoolteacher.
She was also actively involved in the Women’s Suffrage movement during the early 20th century. Crompton was born as Richmal Crompton Lamburn to Clara Crompton and Reverend Edward John Sewell Lamburn in Lancashire, England. Her brother John Battersby Crompton Lamburn (pen name: John Lambourne) also gained fame as a successful fantasy writer.
