Rebecca Sugar is an American artist and composer, born on July 9, 1987 in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is best known for her work on the Cartoon Network television series Adventure Time as a writer and storyboard artist. Sugar went on to create the animated series Steven Universe, becoming the first woman to create a show on Cartoon Network.
Before her rise to fame, she started her career in 2008 as a producer and composer. Throughout her career, she has earned Emmy Award and Annie Award nominations for her work on Adventure Time.
Sugar grew up with her family in Silver Spring, Maryland; her brother Steven Sugar became a background designer for Steven Universe. In 2008, she began dating Ian Jones-Quartey; the couple wed on December 4, 2019.
