About Razan Al-Najjar
Razan Al-Najjar (born September 13, 1997) was a Palestinian nurse and doctor who gained recognition for her volunteer work at the Gaza health ministry. Tragically, she was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers while attempting to evacuate wounded protestors near Israel’s border fence in Gaza.
Prior to her fateful encounter, Razan had volunteered at numerous medical facilities and underwent paramedic training at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis before becoming an active member of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.
Following her untimely death, the UN expressed anguish and called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it. This prompted widespread recognition of Razan’s heroic efforts, with the UN issuing a press release on June 2, 2018.
Razan Al-Najjar was born and raised in Khan Younis, Palestine as the eldest of six children to her father Ashraf al-Najjar.
