About Ramadevi Choudhury
Ramadevi Choudhury, born on December 3, 1899 in India, was a prominent civil rights leader and women’s freedom fighter. She earned the nickname Ma Rama Devi for her influential leadership role during the Indian freedom movement.
Prior to gaining recognition as a social reformer, she drew inspiration from her uncle’s nationalism and the teachings of Sri Aurobindo. Additionally, she attended an important public meeting for Oriya women on March 23rd, 1921 which was spearheaded by Gandhi.
She hailed from a notable family, being the daughter of Gopal Ballav Das and the niece of Utkal Gaurab Madhusudan Das. At just fifteen years old, she married Gopabandhu Choudhury.
