About Raina Telgemeier
Raina Telgemeier is a cartoonist, born on May 26, 1977, in San Francisco, California. She is best known for creating the webcomic Smile (A Dental Drama), which was published as a graphic novel by Scholastic Press’s Graphix in 2010.
Before gaining recognition as a cartoonist, Telgemeier endured a significant mouth injury during her youth and subsequently underwent years of orthodontic and dental work.
In addition to Smile, she has authored other notable works such as Drama, which earned her the Stonewall Book Award in 2013.
Telgemeier comes from a family with siblings – Amara and Will. In the early 2000s she married fellow cartoonist Dave Roman.
