About Rachel Portman
Rachel Portman is a composer born on December 11, 1960 in England. She is well known for her work as a film composer, particularly for the Academy Award-winning score for “Emma” in 1996. This made her the first female composer to win the Best Musical or Comedy Score category.
Portman attended Charterhouse School and later studied at Worcester College in Oxford. She began her career by writing music for BBC and Channel 4 productions.
Among her notable works are scoring two episodes of ‘The Jim Henson Hour’ and all 13 episodes of ‘The Storyteller,’ both projects from Jim Henson.
Rachel Portman’s parents are Penelope and Berkeley Charles Portman.
