About Rachel Dolezal
Rachel Dolezal, born on November 12th, 1977 in Montana, is a civil rights activist and former Africana studies instructor. She gained attention when she served as the Chair of the Police Ombudsman Commission and President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Spokane, Washington. However, she lost all three positions after public accusations that she had misrepresented her race.
Dolezal holds degrees from Belhaven University and Howard University where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts. Prior to her controversial tenure in Spokane, she worked as the Director of Education and Curator at the Human Rights Education Institute in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho from 2008 to 2010 and later held part-time teaching positions at North Idaho College (2005-2013) and Eastern Washington University (2007-2015).
She was married to Kevin Moore from 2000 to 2005; they share a son named Franklin. In addition, Dolezal welcomed another son named Langston in honor of poet Langston Hughes.
