About Queen Wilhelmine
Queen Wilhelmine, born Princess Wilhelmine in Potsdam, Prussia (modern-day Germany) on November 18, 1774, assumed the title of Wilhelmine of Prussia, Queen of the Netherlands following her marriage to King William I of the Netherlands. She ruled from 1815 until her death in 1837.
Her 1791 arranged marriage to her cousin William was a very happy union; however, they were forced into exile during the early years of their marriage and lived in England, Prussia, and Poland.
A patron of the arts and an amateur artist, she was made an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Queen Wilhelmine’s family included seven siblings and her children with King William I produced two sons and two daughters.
