Queen Sofia, born Princess Sophia Margarita Victoria Frederika of Greece and Denmark on November 2, 1938 in Psychiko, Greece, is the wife of Juan Carlos I King of Spain. She is also the mother of King Felipe VI of Spain.

Sofia spent her childhood in various countries including Greece, Egypt, South Africa, and Germany. She later attended Cambridge University’s Fitzwilliam College in England.

Notably, she participated as a reserve member for Greece’s champion sailing team at the 1960 Olympic Games.

Born to Frederica of Hanover and King Paul of Greece, Queen Sofia grew up with younger siblings named Princess Irene and Prince (later King) Constantine II. Her marriage to Juan Carlos began in 1962 and produced three children – Duchesses Elena and Cristina among them.
