About PT Usha
PT Usha, also known as the “Payyoli Express,” is an accomplished Indian track athlete born on June 27, 1964 in India. She is a renowned sprinter who competed in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and also participated in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. Following her remarkable performance at the Seoul Asian Games of 1986 where she won four gold medals, she earned the title of “queen” of Indian track & field.
Usha was discovered by coach O.M. Nambiar at the Indian National School Games. She achieved success by medaling at the New Delhi Asiad of 1982 and at the 1983 Asian Track and Field Championships before making history with her victory. Notably, she set the Indian national athletic record for the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.45 seconds during an event held in Los Angeles.
Born Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha, she spent her youth in Payyoli, Kozhikode, Kerala, India.
