About Prue Leith
Prue Leith, born on February 18, 1940 in South Africa, is a renowned TV show host and culinary expert. She is best known for her role as a judge on the popular BBC TV series The Great British Bake Off, joining the show during its 8th series in 2017 while also serving as the Chancellor for Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
Before gaining fame through television, Prue studied at Sorbonne and Cordon Bleu Cookery School in London before establishing her catering company, Leith’s Good Food. In 1969, she opened her first Michelin-rated restaurant under the name Leith’s.
Aside from her work on The Great British Bake Off, Prue Leith has been a long-time judge on BBC Two’s The Great British Menu and Channel 4’s My Kitchen Rules.
In her personal life, Prue has one brother named James. Her first marriage to Rayne resulted in two children named Li-Da and Danny before his passing in 2002. She later married clothing designer John Playfair in October of 2016.
