About Princess Alice
Princess Alice was born on April 25, 1843 in England. She was the third child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and the first of her siblings to pass away after contracting diphtheria. Apart from her royal duties, she founded the Princess Alice Women’s Guild to provide medical aid to soldiers wounded in the Austro-Prussian War.
Before fame, Princess Alice grew up with older siblings named Victoria and Albert and younger siblings named Alfred, Helena, Louise, Arthur, Leopold, and Beatrice. Tragically, her youngest son Prince Friedrich died at the age of two after falling from a window due to his hemophilia. In 2010 she was posthumously awarded as a British Hero of the Holocaust for sheltering a Jewish family during World War II.
Her marriage to Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse produced five daughters and two sons. One daughter became married into Russian royalty before being executed alongside her husband following political unrest there.
