About Pooja Umashankar
Pooja Umashankar, born on June 25, 1981 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a renowned movie actress primarily known for her performances in Tamil and Sinhala-language films.
Umashankar gained recognition for her roles in acclaimed Tamil movies like Naan Kadavul and Vidiyum Munn. She also garnered praise for her work in Sinhala-language films such as Anjalika and Kusa Pabha.
Before pursuing a career in acting, she obtained both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.
In 2003, she received the Amrutha Surabi Film Award for “Best Female Debut” for her portrayal of Seema in the Tamil film Jay Jay.
Umashankar was born to a family of Sinhalese heritage in Colombo but spent most of her childhood in India. She was once engaged to model Deepak Shanmuganathan before their relationship ended.
