About Petula Clark
Petula Clark is a British pop singer who was born on November 15, 1932 in Epsom, England. She gained fame with her hit song “Downtown” in 1965 and has also worked as an actress and composer. Her acting career began with her television debut in Guest in the House in 1957. In addition to singing in English, she released singles in French, Italian, and German.
Prior to becoming famous, Clark was inspired by watching Mary Tudor and made her first foray into the spotlight as a singer in 1939. She was discovered by producer Maurice Elvey while performing at London’s Royal Albert Hall during the 1940s.
Clark’s career started during World War II when she worked as a radio entertainer on BBC Radio. Throughout her career, she collaborated with various record labels including Polygon, Vogue, and MGM.
In terms of personal life, Clark married Claude Wolff on June 8th, 1961 and they have three children together.
