Petronele Gerlikiene (June 19, 1905) was a Lithuanian folk artist known for her large-scale tapestries. Born in Illinois, Gerlikiene embarked on her artistic career later in life, creating intricate tapestries starting in 1972 and expanding into painting four years later.
Her work often featured depictions of trees, with pieces such as “An Oak,” “A Rowan,” “A Maple Tree,” and “A Red Tree” earning her numerous awards and accolades. Her fascination with large trees served as inspiration for many of her most renowned works.
Following her retirement, Gerlikiene went to live with her son’s family. Throughout her career, she left a lasting impact on the world of folk art with her unique talent and dedication to portraying the beauty of nature through tapestry and painting.
