About Penny Jay
Penny Jay was a Tennessee-born country songwriter and singer, known for her 1962 hit “Don’t Let Me Cross Over,” originally performed by Carl and Pearl Butler. She began her musical career at the age of twelve, performing on the popular Cas Walker radio show. In her twenties, she sang with a country duo called Jenny & Jill.
Her singles include “Lonely and Unwanted,” “Just Over the Line,” and “Those Kinds of Girls.” After retiring from music in the 1970s, Penny Jay moved to Arkansas to live with her daughter and musician son-in-law.
