About Penelope Spheeris
Penelope Spheeris was born on December 2, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a renowned director known for her work on the classic comedy “Wayne’s World” and the documentary trilogy “The Decline of Western Civilization.”
Prior to her successful career in filmmaking, Spheeris traveled around the American South and Midwest with her father’s carnival until she was seven years old. Interestingly, she was offered the chance to direct “This is Spinal Tap,” but turned it down because she believed it wasn’t possible to make fun of heavy metal.
In terms of family life, her father owned the Magic Empire Shows circus carnival and was a sideshow strong man.
