Patty Duke was born in New York City, New York on December 14, 1946. She was a renowned movie actress known for her role as Neely O’Hara in Valley of the Dolls and for portraying Helen Keller in both the Broadway play The Miracle Worker and its 1962 film adaptation, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Before gaining fame, Duke made a brief appearance on the soap opera A Brighter Day. Her television credits include Hawaii Five-0 and Glee.
Duke had two sons, Mackenzie and actor Sean Astin, with her third husband John Astin. With her fourth husband Michael Pearce, whom she married in 1986, she had a son named Kevin.
