About Patricia Reilly Giff
Patricia Reilly Giff was an American children’s author born on April 26, 1935 in New York City, New York. She is best known for her Polk Street School series and has had a successful career as a teacher and writer of children’s books.
Prior to gaining fame as an author, Giff attended Marymount University where she earned her undergraduate degree before going on to obtain her Master’s from St. John’s University.
Giff achieved significant recognition for her work, winning the prestigious Newbery Medal in 1998 for Lily’s Crossing and again in 2003 for Pictures of Hollis Woods. In addition to her professional achievements, she also raised three children with her husband, Jim.
