About Patricia Polacco
Patricia Polacco (born July 11, 1944) is an American children’s author and illustrator, known for her work in books such as Boat Ride with Lillian Two Blossom, The Keeping Quilt, and Thank You, Mr. Falker. She received the 1992 Golden Kite Award for Chicken Sunday. Prior to her career as a bestselling author, she struggled with reading due to dyslexia. Her book Thank You, Mr. Falker recounts this experience and pays tribute to the teacher who helped her overcome it.
Polacco began her professional life as an artist and only started writing children’s books later in life at age 41. Born in Lansing, Michigan into a mixed Eastern-European and Irish family background where she was close to her grandmother who appears in several of her stories; Patricia is married to Enzo—an Italian chef—and they have two children.
