About Paola Concia
Paola Concia (born April 2, 1963) is an Italian politician and the first openly gay woman to be part of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. She was elected to this position in 2008 and has since become a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Italy.
Prior to her political career, Concia studied physical education at university and worked as a tennis instructor. She initially entered politics as part of the Italian Communist Party.
In addition to her political work, she appeared as a judge on a 2013 episode of Jump! Stasera Mi Tuffo, a reality show where celebrities participated in high dives.
Concia’s personal life has also been notable. In 2011, she and her partner Ricarda took part in a civil union in Germany, although their requests to have the union recognized in Italy were denied.
