About Padma Subramaniam
Padma Subramaniam, born on February 4, 1943 in India, is an internationally renowned Indian classical dancer who has specialized in the Bharatanatyam style. She received her training at the dance school established by her father and later studied under Guru Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai, one of South India’s most well-known performers.
Subramaniam pioneered the Pushpanjali dance and as a choreographer popularized many techniques that are now commonplace in Indian dance. Her father K. Subramaniam was a well-regarded filmmaker and her mother was a composer and songwriter.
