Oveta Culp Hobby was a pioneering Texas woman who made history as the first Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Born on January 19, 1905 in Texas, she graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1925 before embarking on a remarkable career in politics and public service.
