Olympia Dukakis, born on June 20, 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts, is an acclaimed movie actress. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Rose in the 1987 film Moonstruck, a role which earned her an Academy Award. Dukakis also starred in In the Land of Women and received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Sinatra.
Prior to achieving fame as an actress, Dukakis had connections to politics—her cousin Michael Dukakis served as the Governor of Massachusetts and ran for President of the United States.
In addition to her illustrious career in film, Olympia Dukakis made a memorable guest appearance on The Simpsons as Grandpa Simpson’s love interest. She has been married to actor Louis Zorich since 1962 and they share three children: Christina Zorich and sons Stefan and Peter Zorich.
