About Nolwenn Leroy
Nolwenn Leroy, born on September 28, 1982 in Saint-Renan, France, is a French chanteuse known for winning the second season of the reality show Star Academy. She has had a successful career as a folk singer and has released two number-one singles.
Before her rise to fame, Leroy was encouraged by her music teacher to take up the violin. At age 13, she won a musical talent contest that allowed her to travel to Timbuktu, Mali. Additionally, she spent a year in rural Hamilton, Ohio which served as inspiration for some of her renditions including “Scarborough Fair” and “Whiskey in the Jar,” featured in her U.S. debut album.
Leroy’s father Jean-Luc Le Magueresse was a professional footballer; however, he and Nolwenn’s mother divorced when she was 11 years old.
